Track 38: Tourism
Tourism is a leading application domain in b2c e-commerce; already in the past this sector was a major field of applying electronic networks, i.e., airline CRS/GDS in the 60s. This can be explained by the specifics of this industry and its services: the product is a confidence good, consumers decide a priori on the base of available information – they cannot test the product; the industry acts in a world-wide and networked structure; and the demand is global as well. Thus, this sector can serve as an excellent example for the dynamics and structures of electronic markets and their development.
